Most people don’t know that nearly 100 million Americans were injected with a polio vaccine that contained a known cancer-causing virus. It wasn’t a conspiracy theory. It wasn’t fringe speculation. It was Simeon Virus 40, SV40, a virus found in monkey kidney cells used to make the polio vaccine between 1955 and 1963. The U.S. government eventually admitted it. The scientific community confirmed it. And since then, SV40 has been detected in several types of human cancer, including mesotheliomas, brain tumors, bone cancers, and lymphomas.
SV40 is so carcinogenic that researchers now use it in labs to intentionally give rats and guinea pigs tumors. And yet this was injected into American children by the millions. The official estimate is that 98 million people may have received at least one contaminated dose. This is not a small mistake. It’s a catastrophic failure of oversight and accountability that has never been properly addressed.
The justification at the time was simple: polio was a threat, and this vaccine was the solution. And yes, the polio vaccine did reduce polio infections. But here’s the question nobody wants to answer, how many people died later from cancers caused by the contaminated vaccine? And did those cancers eventually kill more people than polio ever would have? Nobody has the full answer, because no large-scale study was ever done. No long-term tracking of cancer rates in the exposed group. No admission of liability. No criminal charges. Just silence.
Adding to the concern, independent labs have found SV40 DNA promoter sequences present in Pfizer and Moderna’s COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, despite these not being disclosed in regulatory submissions. This raises serious questions about transparency and safety oversight. At the same time, there has been a reported rise in so-called "turbo cancers", aggressive cancers appearing suddenly in younger, healthier people. The silence around investigating any possible link is telling. Meanwhile, Pfizer has conveniently shifted into promoting mRNA cancer therapies and has even acquired a biotech company specialising in cancer vaccines. It raises a disturbing possibility: the same platform that may be contributing to a spike in cancer risk could also be used to profit from its treatment.
This is what happens when public health becomes a business. The vaccine industry now brings in more than $90 billion a year. The cancer industry brings in over $300 billion. And if you think those industries want to shrink, you’re not paying attention. These aren’t charity projects. These are cash machines. Lifelong customers are more profitable than healthy people.
The polio-SV40 scandal is not ancient history. It’s a warning that still applies. Today, most vaccine research, testing, approval, and marketing are still controlled by the same types of players. The pharmaceutical companies run the studies, control the data, fund the regulators, and shape the media narratives. Conflicts of interest are everywhere. Real safety studies are rare. Liability is often waived. And the public is expected to shut up and comply.
We now have a health system that rewards speed, not caution. Products get fast-tracked with limited testing, and the long-term effects don’t matter once the money is made. If a product turns out to be harmful years later, nobody pays. The companies settle with no admission of guilt. The regulators who approved the product go work for the same companies. And the victims? They’re forgotten or dismissed.
SV40 should have ended the blind trust the public places in pharmaceutical giants and their regulators. Instead, it was buried. And because it was buried, the same system has continued, unchecked, unaccountable, and often reckless. The health of millions is still treated as a business calculation. If the profits outweigh the lawsuits, the product stays on the market.
The benefits of vaccines are now questionable. They are rushed, contaminated, or based on weak science, and they do serious harm. And when that harm is covered up, and the people responsible walk away richer, we no longer have a health system, we have a racket.
We need to stop pretending that past medical scandals are irrelevant to present ones. The same forces are still in control. And until they are held accountable, the pattern will repeat. We’ve already seen it with Vioxx, with opioids, with hormone therapies, and with experimental treatments rushed out under the banner of crisis. And we’ll keep seeing it until the public says no more.
The SV40 story isn’t just about the past. It’s about what happens when no one is watching the people in charge. And it’s still happening today.
