The Lie of Being Chosen To Justify Violence & Looting

Christian zionism’s role in the displacement and killing of Palestinians

Many modern conflicts are shaped more by deeply rooted religious ideas that blur fact and belief than by politics or territory. The notion that certain people are “God’s chosen” has been used for centuries to justify power, privilege, and violence. Today, this idea continues to influence global events, often with dangerous consequences.

In the case of Israel and Palestine, the belief that Jewish people hold a divine claim to the land, based on religious doctrine, fuels one of the most enduring and tragic conflicts of our time. This belief is held not only by many within Israel, but also by American evangelicals who see Israel as central to their own theology. It is this combination of nationalism and religious ideology that underpins U.S. support for Israeli policies, including the ongoing war in Gaza.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the most prominent political figure in Israel today, was born in the United States. His parents were Polish Jews who emigrated from Europe. Like many others, his ancestry is not from the ancient Middle East but from Eastern Europe. He changed his family name from Mileikowsky to Netanyahu, aligning himself more closely with the revived Hebrew identity central to the modern Israeli state. His real name Benzion Netanyahu. If you put your thinking cap on, where do you think the idea of identifying with any sex or gender you want comes from? This is not uncommon in Israel, where the construction of national identity often includes reshaping names, histories, and even maps.

Yet these facts are rarely acknowledged when powerful leaders invoke religious destiny. When figures like Paula White, a key spiritual advisor to former President Trump, refer to Israelis as “God’s chosen for everyone,” they are, beyond simply expressing personal faith, are declaring a theological worldview that sees one group as spiritually superior and entitled to land, regardless of the human cost. This vision leaves no space for the people who already live there, in this case, Palestinians.

This theology, often called Christian Zionism, believes that the return of Jews (who just happen to be white Europeans appropriating a religion) to the Holy Land ( appropriating land associated with other people and their history) is a precondition for the Second Coming of Christ. It is not a belief rooted in justice, democracy, or history, but in made up prophecy and salvation. For its followers, the suffering of Palestinians is not a tragedy to be prevented, but an unfortunate step toward a divine end.

The outcome is a moral collapse that goes beyond failed policy. Bombing cities, displacing families, and denying people basic rights are justified through the language of God’s will. And when such violence is given religious cover, it becomes nearly impossible to question without being called a heretic or an enemy.

Belief in chosenness, when tied to power, has never led to peace or liberation. It creates a world divided between those who belong and those who do not, between those who are saved and those who are expendable. The idea that anyone holds a special divine status by virtue of birth, religion, or geography is not a truth. it is a made up story. a myth, period! And it is a fake story that is costing lives of innocent people. In 2025, this level of ignorance in the presence of widely available knowledge and technovy to access that knowledge shouldn't be in existence anymore.
